Beth and friends on a country walk
Beth McLeod, Owner of Knockderry Country House Hotel, shares her passion for Loch Lomond and surrounding areas with us in our “I love Loch Lomond” interview series.
What I love about Loch Lomond and surrounding areas:
The enormous variety that awaits you, the gateway to the Highlands of Scotland.
Loch Lomond must-see’s and must-do’s:
We have a wee list of the Top 10 for guests at the hotel but I’ll give you my personal four favourites:
- Hill House, in Helensburgh – not just a national treasure but a magnificent example of the genius of Rennie Mackintosh.
- A cruise on Loch Lomond – as it is meant to be seen from the water, magical!
- Maybe I just love the water but a trip on the Waverley in the summer is fantastic and a very special day out.
- No visit is complete without a climb up the ‘Cobbler’ or Beinne Arthur; two of this country’s great mountains.
A favourite view:
Can I be biased? Loch Long; early morning, late spring, clear day and the water like a mirror. Breathtaking.
A favourite place to stay:
Here! Seriously, we are very lucky to stay in such a peaceful and beautiful part of the world.
My perfect day out in and around Loch Lomond would be:
A wee walk with my dogs, Molly and Rosie, up the hills before heading back to Helensburgh to my favourite coffee shop the Riverhill Deli for a delicious Portuguese custard tart.
When I’m away from Loch Lomond, I miss:
The silence.
My hopes for Loch Lomond in 2012:
It is such a beautiful part of the world I hope we all, visitors and locals alike, continue to keep it that way for the future.
Did you know?
H.V. Morton wrote: “What a large part of Loch Lomond’s beauty is due to its islands, those beautiful green tangled islands, that lie like jewels upon its surface.” Does anyone really know how many there are?
My Loch Lomond is…
Just beautiful…all year round.
